Open Access is an initiative created by advocates in the New Markets Tax Credits industry to increase diverse representation in community development finance, with a focus on underrepresented communities.
The community development industry concentrates much of its work in minority communities across America, yet diverse professionals remain sharply underrepresented at all levels. In a field that advances through career mentorship, they have lacked onboarding and promotion opportunities. Many never learn what career paths exist, let alone how to reach them.
The challengeFellows complete three Novogradac-sponsored courses in NMTCs, LIHTCs, and either HTCs, RETCs, or OZs to earn a certificate, plus a financial modeling in Excel course and access to a Novogradac industry conference. Additional offerings include CDFI and NMTC underwriting courses.
160 hours of paid placement with partnering lenders, investors, CDEs, syndicators, consultants, and other service providers, virtual or in person. Placements span New Markets Tax Credits, affordable housing, and other community development financing, for a minimum of three months.
Panel discussions, fireside chats, and office hours with industry experts, a networking competition among fellows, and ongoing connection with alumni cohorts at the Novogradac tax credit conference.
